Independence with everyday support

What is Supported Independent Living?

Supported Independent Living (SIL) is NDIS funding for the support workers who help you with everyday tasks at home — often around the clock. It’s one of several NDIS home and living supports, and it’s designed for participants with higher support needs who want to live as independently as possible while staying safe and well.

An important thing to understand: SIL funds the people and the support, not the property. Your rent, groceries and utilities are paid separately, usually from your income. If you also need specialist housing, that’s funded through Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA), which works alongside SIL.

At Essence Community Care, our SIL services help you build daily-living skills, grow your confidence and enjoy a genuine home life — with trained, compassionate support workers beside you every step of the way. Whether you’re moving out of the family home for the first time, transitioning from hospital, or reviewing an existing arrangement, we take the time to understand what independence looks like for you.

Under the NDIS, SIL usually sits within your Core Supports (Home & Living), and the roster of care is matched to your assessed needs. As you develop new skills, that support can be adjusted — so you’re never receiving more help than you want, or less than you need. Our role is to get the balance right and revisit it often.

Why choose Essence Community Care

Support that puts you in control

Choosing a SIL provider is a big decision, and the right one makes all the difference to your quality of life. We believe good support starts with listening — to you, your family and the people who know you best — and building from there.

As a registered NDIS provider, we meet the Quality and Safeguards Commission standards and the 2026 registration requirements, so you can have confidence in the care you receive. But compliance is only the baseline. What sets our SIL support apart is the everyday warmth, consistency and respect our team brings to every home.
